Early Years Program

Our Structure

The primary department operates as a co-operative group.  Classes are combined on a regular basis for short discussions and some group activities. Some specialist classes are also combined to give the students opportunity to develop leadership skills and the benefit of older role models.

Students are grouped according to individual needs for areas such as Literacy and Numeracy.

Our small classes and working groups, often one teacher to three or four students, enable teachers to focus on the specific needs of students.

Pastoral care is the responsibility of the homeroom teacher with support from Senior Leadership and Student Wellbeing teacher.

Parents are encouraged to be involved in class projects wherever possible and receive regular updates of Primary programs via student communication books.

Our Communication Methods

In keeping with the school's bilingual philosophy, the two languages of Auslan and English are used in the Primary department.

Our Curriculum

The curriculum is based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards and is the same as is used in regular Primary schools.  Levels of achievement are linked to individual student needs.

http://www.smartkiddies.com.au/teacher/help-us is a website that VCD subscribes to that engages students in on line activities around literacy and numeracy. We think its great, check out smartkiddies for yourself.
